Traditional Japanese Forging

In the traditional production of a Japanese samurai sword, the exact temperature, the cooling time, the steel and the folding technique, the exact processing of the blade, the clay tempering and many other points play a decisive role to ultimately obtain an original, detailed Samurai sword. So the correct forging technique is enormously crucial for a high quality katana. Our sword smiths have been skilled in traditional Japanese forging for 20 years. The result is a robust, flexible, razor sharp and beautiful samurai sword that is extremely close to the katana from feudal Japan.

How to Recognize a Real Katana?

By a real katana we do not mean an antique katana from the feudal period of Japan, but a katana forged in the traditional Japanese manner. These are finely handcrafted from a full tang blade. The blade is tempered in clay creating the typical hardening pattern (hamon) on the blade of the katana. The tsuka (handle) is covered with ray skin or shark leather so that the winding (ito) on the handle does not slip. After further elaborate steps, the polishing and grinding, the finished katana is completed with a real wood saya (scabbard) made of hardwood and buffalo horn.
