Katana Maintenance Set Contents:
- Wooden box: An elegant and practical storage box for all care products.
- Uchiko (powder puff): For removing old oil and enhancing the sword’s surface.
- Mekuginuki (brass hammer): For loosening the wooden pins in the handle and disassembling the sword.
- Nuguigami (cleaning paper): Special, thick Japanese paper for removing old oil and cleaning the Uchiko powder.
- Two mekugi (bamboo pins): For attaching the handle to the blade.
Note: Due to shipping regulations for hazardous materials, this care kit does not contain choji oil. However, you can use alternative oils or purchase the choji oil separately from another store. Alternatives to choji oil:
- Japanese camellia oil
- 3-in-1 oil
- Singer machine oil
- Mineral oil
- If necessary, WD-40 can also be used, but this dries out more quickly and smells unpleasant.
Katana care and maintenance:
- Cleaning and oiling the blade
- Non-stainless blades should be cleaned after each use, ideally with washing-up liquid or warm water.
- Dry the blade thoroughly and coat it with a thin layer of oil, such as Japanese camellia oil, which is non-sticky and does not attack the surface.
- Maintenance of the Katana
- Regular maintenance of a katana is important to prevent corrosion and damage to the blade.
- Use the uchiko and nuguigami (powder puff and cleaning paper) to remove old oil from the blade.
- If necessary, disassemble the katana with the mekuginuki (brass hammer) to enable thorough cleaning and inspection of the parts.
“To care for a blade is to care for the spirit; the sword is the soul of the samurai, and its care reflects the dedication of its owner.”
